The Walk

A walk can change in less than a mile. She’s not quite miserable yet, because she still held the hope that there’ll be something better just around the corner. Or not even to the next corner; perhaps the next step will be enough to lift her out of troubled waters.

In hindsight, it was in the next few steps that caused her to be lifted far beyond her comfort zone, and into a realm where no human should ever go, not because it’s forbidden or bad, but because no one should ever belong there.

She’s an alien in her new home, and even though people still treat her the same, it’s the background that makes everything different. There’s no turning back, though, so she bears the tragedy as if it were meant for her, and finally discards the hope she doesn’t need anymore.
