The Wish

She’s been alone for a very long time, so when someone finally looks her way, in her mind, he becomes hers. Not to keep, but to protect from the past, because a kind man always leaves at least one broken heart behind.

She protects him in his waking hours; from the chairs by the windows where he can look back to where he’s from. She protects him in his sleep, where ghosts try to wake him and make him listen to their sad stories. He is hers, and whoever makes her out as the thief will be given the same treatment.

She may not be the first, but she will give her utmost to be the last, and in doing so spins her own story to tell.
