His tail, like his emotions, sway to the beating of an irregular pendulum, so much so that even he doesn’t know where his nose will point to next. So when he’s asked to be responsible for a child that’s not his own, he agrees with his mouth, but can find no counter to hold on to his promise. He lives as a slave to no one but himself, so even if it’s the right thing to do, if it doesn’t align with his whim, then he can’t find the will to do what others want.

Perhaps, in all honesty, all it comes down to is that he can’t bring himself to care about anything or anyone other than himself, and that is what makes him more dangerous than the wolf who lurks in the shadows.
