Descent

His entire being is parched, and he feels the thirst as it drags him deep underground as if it could find water beneath the layers of cracking soil. Even so, this feeling of descent is more like drowning than sinking, because every time he tries to take a breath he’s dragged further downwards.

So what he needs is something that brings him back up for air; keeps him afloat for brief moments in the storm. Something like an immovable rock that has nowhere to go despite the thirst or waves, something he can cling onto and maybe even lift him out of his grave. And who knows? Maybe this rock, that has the ability to make things float, will also provide a way out of his thirst once and for all.
