Despite being a shepherd, he isn’t known for his sheep, but rather the fruit that comes from his mouth.
Unfortunately, it’s the kind of fruit that isn’t very popular.
He uses his words to punish people, so it’s no wonder that people try to shut him up. But he continues to say things that they don’t want to hear, not because he wants to, but because he needs to see something happen.
He’s long grown tired of seeing the routine of the world around him, of all the popular notions and actions floating around like the algae that sits on top of a swamp. It seems like he’s the only one who’s longing to come up and breathe air instead of stagnant water, so he continues to speak.
He speaks against threshers with iron teeth and sceptres, who have used their sledges on things other than grain. He speaks against those who sell prisoners, those who asphyxiate compassion with a sword, and those who set fire to the bones of a king. He even speaks against his own people, because they’ve allowed the darkness to win, and have willingly sold their humanity for a pair of sandals.
Despite everything, he wonders if such people can change their ways, but for the moment, he continues to speak in the hopes of rescuing an ear or a leg from the mouth of a lion.
