Barbeque

Today marks a special occasion: the first barbeque of the year!!

Ok, so technically I wasn’t doing the barbeque-ing or even preparing the food, but the event was named a barbeque by the host so it counts as long as I show up. And eat. And even though the only thing that was truly barbequed was chicken, it was really good – cooked to perfection, with the inside still moist and marinated so that the flavours are still there, but not so overpowering that you couldn’t taste the actual chicken anymore. There was also a potato salad, fresh fruit and a bean dish (it had lima, kidney and baked beans cooked in a barbeque sauce and topped with bacon. Anything with bacon is pretty much an automatic win). Dessert consisted of milk and dark chocolate turtles, strawberry rhubarb pie and a cherry pie. With ice cream, if desired. What more can you ask for?

Well, the mosquitoes were the only downer since we ate outside, but it was cool enough that they decided not to bite. Otherwise, I came home stuffed with goodies, as I’m sure everyone else was as well. Case in point: one of the turtles were missing even before we got round to dishing dessert out. The culprit remained uncaught, though I have a sneaking suspicion that it was actually the host who snuck one of the chocolate delights.

At this rate, I’m never going to lose those 5 extra pounds I gained over the winter.
